The HABC Level 2 Award in CCTV Public Space Surveillance qualification is required by law for the grant of a Security Industry Authority (SIA) Licence, which allows individuals to work in the private security industry as a CCTV operative.

This three day course is aimed at those wanting to work as a CCTV public surveillance operative. It is also an ideal qualification for those transferring from other security roles as well as people who have an element of CCTV surveillance experience in their current security role.

To work as a CCTV operative, individuals must hold a frontline Public Space Surveillance (CCTV) licence issued by the Security Industry Authority (SIA). To be granted this licence an applicant must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Pass the SIA’s criminality criteria
  • Hold a recognised CCTV PSS qualification - the Level 2 Award in CCTV Public Space Surveillance

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Working in any licensable role without the appropriate SIA licence is a criminal offence. Before applying for an SIA licence, individuals are required to gain this qualification.

Course Content

Topics covered in this course include the key purposes of the private security industry, the differences between civil and criminal Law, the roles and responsibilities of each member of the CCTV team, the importance of accurate record-keeping, equipment fault reporting procedures, and actions to take if a suspicious object is found in the CCTV control room.

Assessment

This qualification is assessed by a multiple-choice examinations and a practical assessment.
